Saturday Politics : The French and US Responses to Radical Islamic Terrorism

Saturday Politics this week is about facing up to the world we live in. ~~~~~ On Monday evening near Paris, a French police commander, 42, was savagely knifed and killed outside his home by a man known to French security because of a prior 2 1/2-year imprisonment for helping islamist militants go to Pakistan. The terrorist, born in France of Moroccan parents, had written a 2011 email intercepted by French intelligence and quoted by Le Monde : “Frankly, do you think we need to go over there? Allah, through his will, will give us the means to raise the flag here. We have to start cleansing the KUFFAR [infidels].” After stabbing the officer nine times while crying "Allah Akbar," the terrorist left him bleeding to death and entered his home, taking as hostages the policeman's wife, who was a police employee, and their 3-year-old son. During a standoff, the terrorist told police he was a member of ISIS. He slit the throat of the wife before French security forces stormed the house, killing him. The toddler survived but is hospitalized in a state of shock. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. ~~~~~ In the US on Sunday, a 29-year-old islamic terrorist shot 102 people at a gay club in Orlando, Florida, killing 49, wounding 53. The FBI had known about the islamic terrorist, having interviewed him three separate times over several years. He had told the FBI he hoped to be a martyr. At one point, the government had been investigating the mosque he attended, but the investigation was shut down by Hillary Clinton’s State Department because it appeared to be anti-Islam. After the massacre, the FBI Director said the man had “links to al-Qaida, Hezbollah, and the Islamic State.“ He made pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia in 2011 and 2012 and claimed to personally know the Boston Marathon Bombers. His parents were born in Afghanistan, but he was born in New York. His father has expressed support for the Taliban on YouTube. Despite those links to islamist groups, the terrorist was cleared to work “as a security guard at a courthouse,“ employed by the world's largest security services company. ~~~~~ A British-born doctor and Moslem scholar, who has gained a following by urging Moslems to ‘get rid of’ homosexuals, gave a speech in April titled ‘How to deal with the phenomenon of homosexuality’ to the Husseini Islamic Center outside Orlando. Two months later, the islamist killer called 911 to swear allegiance to ISIS as he was carrying out the worst massacre in US history -- in a gay club. After the attack, his father posted a video message noting that his son should have refrained because "God himself will punish those involved in homosexuality." ~~~~~ The French response to the police murders was swift. President Hollande assembled senior cabinet ministers. Prime Minister Valls, who has said "We are at war with radical Islam," this week said the terror threat in France “has without doubt never been so high,” with networks regularly dismantled and people detained for questioning. Jérôme Fourquet, of the polling company Ifop, says the French no longer distinguish between internal and external threats, see the large Moslem minority as a sort of “fifth column,” and are resigned to the possibility of further attacks. ~~~~~ Consider President Obama's response to the Orlando attack : "He was inspired by terrorist information....I think we don't yet know the motivation....We see no clear evidence that he was directed externally, uh, it does appear that, at the last minute, he announced allegiance to ISIL....[The FBI] has reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer." ~~~~~ Dear readers, Obama's ambivalence feeds radical Islam in the US and creates an environment primed for islamic terror. France is mobilized to seek and arrest islamists. There is national debate about preventive detention, electronic bracelets for suspected islamists, shutting down mosques, deporting radical imams, and criminalizing the consultation of jihadist websites. In the US, political correctness and a conflicted President prevent debate.

  1. "We are at war with radical Islam" vs "... I think we don't yet know the motivation"

Hollande of France vs Obama in response to terrorist attacks on their own soil.

There isn't much left to say or explain. Their own words, their own feelings, there oun intentions.

  2. “The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer” – Barrack Obama

Would anyone who is not a practicing Muslim please stand up and hum a line of that sound! What you can’t? bet Obama can.

  3. Obama is a person who demonstrates every time he opens his mouth that he has no attachment to America. Neither does he have any idea of American Exceptionalism.

Had he really wanted to use the forces of American he could have helped the everyday Muslim citizen and not bombed them. But that is Islam – born of anger and hatred.

  4. The fact that 71 percent of American voters in the 2014 midterms were worried about a terrorist attack on the U.S. homeland is an indication that violent groups like Al Qaeda.

The 5 leading sources of terrorism are The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, Boko Haram, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, Haqqani Network, and lastly Kataib Hezbollah.

Any or all of these organizations could be in your own neighborhoods or in the inner circles of any national government right now.

Like it or not, terrorism will continue to be a problem for the United States, its allies and the rest of the international community – no matter who the head of the respective government is. It’s a cancer and it is with us. Like narcotics or petty crime, terrorism cannot be eliminated—it can only be degraded and managed to a point that allows everyone to live their lives in relative peace.

  5. The government will tell the American people that the government can keep them safe. This is dead wrong. This government cannot protect you from one of these attacks if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Don’t forget, the FBI, the government itself, KNEW the Orlando shooter. Now, yes, isn’t that rather convenient, not to mention suspicious? Just like they knew the 9/11 hijackers within hours afterward. But the government will soon come forward and assure us that they can protect us if only certain laws are passed. And the clock is ticking, so don’t read them, just pass them. “You have to pass it to see what police state is in it!”, some ditzy politician will assure us. Bravo! This is a performance better than any I could have gotten a top-billed Broadway play! Say, where does a fellah get a program for this performance? I’m having trouble keeping track of the cast of characters.

Look, these attacks are going to continue and they’re only going to grow in scale. Now we know that these attacks would end if the government pulled out of the Middle East. Indeed, ISIS began when the government armed and funded groups that became ISIS way back in 2011-2012 with the purpose of toppling Bashar al-Assad. Our government imagines that it controls these groups and uses them like tools. But, in fact, these groups use the United States government to acquire weapons and money.

People will forget that the biggest terrorist attack we had was carried out using airline tickets. And that the government knew those guys, too, just like they knew the Orlando shooter. I mean, come on, man, really?! Seriously?! They’re going to protect us from the terrorists they created, and the answer is also to bomb Assad, whom they created terrorists to destroy?

And remember also who has been president since 1/20/2009.

  6. “all changed, changed utterly,” (from William Butler Yeats- Easter 1916)

We must all guard against the unguarded change that is sweeping the world presently in politics, social behavior, ethics, and established accepted standards. Once changed things are never the same again.

There was a time not long ago that nations with like desires and needs were on the same page. Today we are not even reading the same book. And this kind of complete and independent knee jerk change results only in the fortifying the tyrant.
