Mitt Romney - America's Candidate for 2016
Life can be a funny thing. Take Mitt Romney. He was set to win the 2012 presidential election, but got sidetracked by Superstorm Sandy and a certain New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, whose sudden affection for President Obama had a lot to do with Obama winning in 2012. That Christie was not chosen by Romney to be his Vice President running mate may have given a push to the Obama campaign to use Christie as a wedge into the Romney lead. It's one of those political what-ifs that will be debated for decades, just as the vote count irregularities in Cook County (Chicago) made the difference in JFK winning in 1960 instead of Richard Nixon. Well, what goes around comes around. The Democrat Party in New Jersey and nationally have concluded that Chris Christie is the biggest GOP threat in 2016 - so they are trying to push him out of contention with the bridge traffic scandal that his staff created. Christie is being manhandled by the media and New Jersey Democrats while Republicans reconsider his electability. And, wouldn't you guess that with the large field of lukewarm GOP 2016 wannabes, the latest GOP 2016 presidential preference poll puts Mitt Romney far out in front -- 25% to his closest rival, Paul Ryan, at 18%, followed by Christie at 17%, Jeb Bush at 16% and Ted Cruz at 8%. ~~~~~ Dear readers, Ann Romney is telling everyone that her husband will not run again. But Romney has a successful track record in business and government leadership positions that America badly needs. And he is a genuinely honest and nice man. Even Jimmy Fallon likes to do skits with him. My guess is that Ann Romney knows better than most that once a person is bitten by the presidential bug it is impossible to cure it. And the country desperately needs a president capable of saving her from the current downward spiral to collapse. Ann Romney understands this and so does her husband. And the Romneys will heed the inevitable call to serve America one more very important time. My only suggestion would be to send Mitt to marine bootcamp for a few weeks to toughen him up a bit before the 2016 presidential campaign swings into action. The GOP should think long and hard before closing the book on Mitt Romney. He was the best candidate in 2012 and he will be the best candidate in 2016.

Bravo & Amen to everything you say.
ReplyDelete2016 Presidential election is about American and her continuance for another 250 years. Unless a new Ronald Reagan comes forth and soon, Mitt Romney is the best person on the scene to accomplish what needs to be done in the fairest and most polite (to everyone) way possible.
I was saving a Mitt Romney bumpersticker but I think I'll use it....NOW!
ReplyDeleteWe are so far away from the 2016 race, yet though it sounds like a winner to have Romney heading the ticket. if that would happen it puts some real importance then as to the VP choice?
ReplyDeleteTaking the leap forward who else do we really have that could win. I wasn't wild about Christie before he stumbled and fell. There are so many good republicans that one could name as a potential candidate - but are they potential winners or just posses ideological comfort.
Since the early days of Goldwater and William F. Buckley the conservative wing of the GOP has been on a steady march forward. But then along came 9/11 that required the abandonment of fiscal policies and the drawing of energies from domestic to international affairs for most countries the United States being one. Conservatism was approaching a game/set/match situation and now it's reorganize, evaluate, and make difficult choices on banner carriers vs. only looking at conservative pedigrees.
The time doesn't allow us to wear blinders and expect to get Ronald Reagan every time out. This is no longer my grandfather's or even our party of "present your credentials at the door before entering" and wait to be invited in.
Economic, military preparedness, and International leadership must for the immediate future be the forefront for the GOP. Time is of the essences to set our course once again towards economic stability, military superiority to ensure regional calmness, and reclaim our position in international affairs with workable solutions to the deadly problems that are out there.
Progress and stability in the future because of decisiveness now.
It's important to remember how Romney won the 2012 nomination in the first place: By being the only sane choice among a buffet of ridiculous candidates like Herman Cain. Base voters never really liked or trusted him — remember all the flip-flopping accusations and the RomneyCare bashing? — But settled on him because they really had no better option. None of that has changed. In fact maybe people believe that he was simply the best choice and was badly mistreated by lies and innuendos and a lazy, under informed electorate not wanting to turn out our first African-American president after just one lousy, non-productive term.
ReplyDeleteCome 2016, there are a number of never-rans with more robust conservative credentials (and little else) who could steal the base's heart, while also boasting a plausible resume, such as Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ted Cruz (Texas), Sen Rubio, etc.
But is anyone at this point in time a better prospect to win in 2016 than Gov. Romney? Not at all is there!
