The Middle East

Anonymous -- I agree but there has to be some light at the end of the tunnel. You say it is to elect Romney, and I agree there wholeheartedly, but tell me what Romney will do? No one seems to be ready to go to war, even for Israel, these days. We blew our wad in Iraq and Afghanistan, with the Taliban and al-Qaida probably watching and laughing, knowing it would finally make it easier for them to win.
Will Romney step up and be counted and are there military leaders in America who would stand up with him?
I wasn't really criticizing Bush about Iraq - only about his trying to play a UN card as cover. I suppose that's only human. And, to be fair, Truman did the same thing in Korea, in what was the UN police action led by America.
When you know you're right, act. When you're not sure, discuss. Acting in today's world, even in today's America, is very difficult. We have become a world of debaters being beaten up by actors from another epoch. The Templars, or Knights of Malta, won in the Crusades because they followed a scorched earth plan. Nobody could do that today and survive politically. That is the main reason. I believe, that al-Assad is so hated. If he were only terrorizing and not maiming and killing and torturing children, the world would be content to go on talking about him, too. Ditto was the case with Qafhafi.

  1. I hope that Gov. Romney stands up and answers the bell. Now this is a championship fight so there are 15 scheduled rounds. But come Jan. 20th 2013 he needs to start playing hardball, and he needs to inform the international community one and all that his administrations plans on rectify all the misgivings that the Obama administration had been operating under. He will be tested quickly. He is an unknown on the international stage. he must be ready for the test and respond in a quick and powerful way. The response should be warranted by the deed. The more severe the deed the more severe the penalty.

I was a strong supporter of Bush. I find that he at many times tried to half play his trump card.He seemed to need approval when in fact he was the approving force for our actions. Your line "When you know your right ...." suites Bush. He always wondered if he was right or was the intel he was getting right. In intelligence you have only 2 options when making a move that is supported by intel.
    1. Accept the intel as is 100% and proceed
    2. Throw out all the intel. Disregard it
    100%
    There is NO in between.

I think your right on point about al-Assad. He has made a critical error and ill in the end pay for it with his life. If or when he is captured he's a dead man. And I think rightfully so. He's EVIL. What he does is EVIL. And your right about Qafhafi. Again EVIL. if you believe in good and a God you must belief that there in Evil also.

You say there must be a light at the end of the tunnel. Why, must there be. We hope there is. There wasn't one in Viet Nam or Korea. A light at the end of the tunnel theory I believe is an old politician (not you Casey Pops) way of justifying a war or conflict that he'll never bloody his hands over.

I hold that there isn't a light at the end of this tunnel in the Middle East. Maybe down the road many generations. But not soon. And for me there in lies the crime. Short of Atomic Bombs again. What's going to stop Islamic fundamentalists that find it an honor to die. In my military history I never wanted to die (maybe a couple times). Dying was the end and I would have failed my duty, myself, my country, my God.

Excuse my preaching. I hope I offered some alternative light on the subject. Fore isn't that what this is a discussion of your learned point of view. I also believe your very right except for the "light at the end of the tunnel". Everything doesn't always work out for the best.

    Tks

  2. No One is right 100% of the time. It just doesn't happen. Granted in-seeming like w are always right, along the way to that misconception there are a lot of losses and errors.

But you are right it it could.

I hope we haven't used up all our "get out of jail free cards"

  4. Honestly I can't tell you specifically what Romney will do. I'm not sure that anyone can. We could all expand in great detail what we each would like done and hope he follows our wishes.

It's like religion. i don't know what God will do next or about any specific situation. I do know that in my heart I believe that he will do the right thing. IT"S CALLED FAITH. Well from my perspective I have faith that Mitt Romney will do he right thing for America.

I have NEVER put my desire for a presidential candidate in terms of God's actions, and Faith. For me to see what I'm writing right now I'm s bit shocked.

Is the interplay of nation and their desires brought us to the brink of this world wide disaster. The Fed Chairman's statement today very negative for hope for the future, job expectations to crash in January, etc.

Is the problem much deeper that I see it?
