HHS Secretary Sebelius Admits to More Obamacare Nightmares

US Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius testified before the Senate Finance Comnittee on Wednesday, saying that the government needed to fix hundreds of problems with the Obamacare website for the federal health insurance marketplace, but she categorically rejected bipartisan calls from both Democrat and Republican committee members to delay parts of the new health care law. Just hours before Sebelius testified, the White House disclosed that the chief information officer at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services would retire. His office supervised the creation of the catastrophic website. The official, Tony Trenkle, will step down on November 15 “to take a position in the private sector,” according to an email circulated among agency employees. Trenkle job was to supervise the development of IT products and services, including the development of the website. Mr. Trenkle declined to discuss his plans with rhe New York Times, saying : “I can’t speak with you." Trenkle's retirement is part of a management shake-up announced by Michelle Snyder, the chief operating officer of the Medicare agency, who was herself deeply involved in major decisions about the website and insurance marketplace. The Trenkle firing is one more Obama move to push blame as far down his administration ladder as possible, all the while protecting himself and his senior cabinet members. In addition, while Secretary Sebelius was being roundly criticized by the Senators for the failure of the website, yet more website failures were being reported by officials of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid : “The site is performing slowly,” said Julie Bataille, a spokesperson for the Centers. “Some users have difficulty logging in and receive error messages.” Bataille said it was hard to pinpoint the cause because different consumers had experienced different problems. Some people who have created password-protected accounts have said that they cannot get into their accounts to shop for the insurance that will be required for most Americans by the end of 2014. Sebelius said officials had a list of “a couple of hundred functional fixes” that need to be made so the website could work smoothly for most users by November 30, a deadline set by the administration. “We’re not where we need to be,” Sebelius said. “It’s a pretty aggressive schedule to get to the entire punch list by the end of November.” With many people unable to obtain coverage on the defective website, lawmakers in both parties have suggested extending the open enrollment period or delaying the financial penalties for people who will be unable to buy insurance. But Sebelius refused to consider delaying the program. The chief architect of the health care law, Senator Max Baucus, the Wyoming Democrat who is retiring this year, urged Secretary Sebelius to speed up repairs to the website. At a hearing in April, Baucus told Sebelius that he foresaw “a huge train wreck” because the administration had done little to educate consumers or employers. He asked for periodic updates, and he said Wednesday that the reports were "totally unsatisfactory." Senator Baucus also asked if it would be feasible to shut down the website and make all the required repairs at once. “Why just keep limping along?” he asked. Sebelius said it was better to make the repairs “on an ongoing basis” while the system was running, or in the middle of the night, when it was scheduled to be down for repairs. In addition, when asked what the first issuance of enrollment data will show, Sebelius said the first official enrollment numbers are “likely to be quite low, given the struggles that people have had getting access to the site and getting information.” And several other serious problems with Obamacare enrollment were revealed Wednesday. It was confirmed that in late September, Snyder and Trenkle signed an internal memo acknowledging that security controls for the federal website had not been fully tested. They signed off on a six-month plan to reduce the risk that personal information might be inappropriately disclosed. And documents released Wednesday night by House investigators suggest that Obama administration officials knew even before the marketplaces opened for business on October 1 that the computer systems would not be able to handle anywhere near the anticipated demand. The “testing bulletin” suggested the website as of September 30 could handle only about 1,100 users at a time, even though officials had said it should have been able to accommodate perhaps as many as 60,000, according to the documents, released by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. And as if all these new damaging revelations weren't enough, Sebelius admitted Wednesday to the Senate Finance Committee that it was possible convicted felons could be hired as Obamacare ‘navigators,’ giving them access to personal information like Social Security numbers and addresses of anyone signing up for the program. Sebelius made the admission in an exchange with GOP Senator John Cornyn during the committee hearing. This is yet another breach in Obamacare user security because it is possible that convicted felons would have access to enough user information to easily steal the identity of users they are helping to enroll. ~~~~~ But, dear readers, Secretary Sebelius will not have to worry about any of these failures in the Obamacare website she is responsible for. Because, on October 23 Sebelius told CNS News that she will not enroll on Obamacare because she already has insurance. This is just one more example of Congress and the White House foisting onto defenseless Americans programs, reporting requirements, taxes - and health care laws - that they routinely exempt themselves from having to obey. It is easy to see why GOP Senator Rand Paul wants Congress to pass a law that would make it illegal for Congress to exempt its members from any law it enacts.

  1. How about yet another 2 discloses about the web site and it's contractor(s):

    1. The company that got the $650 plus million dollar contract to build this malfunctioning monstrosity has just received another $7 million dollars in 3 various other federal government divisional contracts.

Isn't it great to have a Federal Government that rewards excellence so rapidly or is that rewards monetary contribution quickly?

    2. And secondly MOST (over 90%) they say of the IT programing, design, etc was done by various sub-employees in various other foreign countries.

That's so fair of the Obama administration to help other countries with their "employment problems". I guess he figures he's straightened out the job picture here in the USA.

And what about "computer security". If you write the programs, design the configuration of the hardware, etc. - doesn't that make breaking through the firewalls (if there are any) so easy...YEP it does. And there goes a lot of SS numbers, address, phone numbers, etc, etc.

I think I'll sleep with an extra gun at my bed side for awhile.

Folks, this is not an error or bad technical construction ... THIS IS PLANNED

  2. How long would this lady last in the corporate boardroom until she was asked for her key to the Executive Washroom back?

  3. I am surprised that Obama didn't have his deep felt apology forwarded to Sebelius for her to issue at the next Senate round of questioning.

Just how long is this good guy/bad guy routine going to be tolerated until the Senate committee sits up and takes the authority granted it. I'm not sure who is the most pathetic here Sibelius or the senators.

  4. Many lives are in somewhat of a shamble right now, the president cannot even come close to owning up to his lies about what can and cannot be done with ones health care insurance policies that are/were in place, Kathleen Sibelius is demonstrating daily at her various senate committee hearing's that she is not even in the ball game when it comes to knowing what is the problem or the intended solution(s) - if there is one, other than a dash of panic and a lot of ill concern.

And the man who's great idea this disastrous law was can with all his speech writers come up with this as an apology ...

“I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me,”

Maybe a few words that were not scripted, something from his heart and soul. Something convincing.

He appeared to be as apologetic as Sibelius is during her testimony on Capital Hill ... something like "what time is it I have a golf game scheduled for 2 PM.

  5. “You said the America should hold you accountable, which is why Madam Secretary I repeat my request for you to resign.” A statement for Kathleen Sebelius from Senator Pat Roberts

The question isn’t whether or not Sebelius should resign after the performance of Obamacare; it’s why every Republican isn’t right there with Roberts calling for her to go.

This woman should be the new poster child for Liers International, or Incompetence in Government, or Just Plain Stupid, or lastly Above my Pay Grade of Knowing organizations.

One has to think that she is MIA from the workings of HHS and Obamacare/ACA.

Is this the best possibility for leadership at the Federal Agency that controls over 1 Sixth of the federal budget. At best people she is a very sad joke, presents a very pitiful front for the USA to the world, degrades ALL competent professional women in business & government.

If this were not so much being covered up here she would have been dismissed a long time ago. But her attributes are that she is a very good solider and when given her marching orders she makes aa About-Face and off to face the enemy. And yes we are the ENEMY to this gang of retributes poised as servants that are "GOING TO CHANGE THE WAY BUSINESS IS DONE IN WASHINGTON DC"

  6. If the socialist progressive democrats (of which Kathleen Sebelius is certainly one major player) were to be honest with the citizens of the USA, they would state their exact intent.

That is to bring all but the ruling class (themselves and George Soros) into modern day serfdom. The left is not about to verbalize their plan; though they come close at times, they flirt with the truthful facts, they toy with the unbelieving Senators when called to testify about their failures; failures like, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Justice Department, illegal funds to defunct "green energy" companies, IRS, NSA, and Obamacare. Though these failures to us ... they are just bumps in the road for the hard core progressive. Obamacare is their ticket to the socialist future which includes the single payer system and therefore control of 1-sixth of the GDP. Most will find it out way too late (because of our inherit trust in our presidents) to keep America as we know it.

As Reagan said, "where do we escape to when we lose the last great hope?"

And just possibly the last great hope is just over the next forgiving senate inquiry.

We have met the enemy and he is not the stoppable socialists, but rather our vast number of unsuspecting elected Congressman and Senators unwilling to see the truth and call it for what it is ...a duck

  7. With every underhanded, evil, lying, despicable government that has come to being on this planet - all have come with the relatively same basket of goods and promises that represent nothing more than heart ache and impoverished lives for those that follow the leader.

They all have refinements, technological advances, and a sophisticated approach to the destruction of human freedom... all disguised as betterment and improvements for the middle class But, like every one of the super states that preceded it, there is that one iron rule that it must be maintain and retain to survive - logic is an enemy and truth is a menace of these "better world cultists".

Directly this may not seem to address Kathleen Sebelius and her place in the Obama skim of destroying what our Founding Fathers put into place a little over 237 years ago ... but it does. You may have to dig throughout their rhetoric and lies, but when you get to the truth of their goals - our destruction is the bottom line. And they will lie, cheat, misrepresent, destroy others on their way to their UTOPIAN state.
