It Is Time to SAVE SYRIA

The killing goes on in Syria - while the rest of the world is commemorating 9.11, or worrying about how to save Greece and the Euro currency, or wondering if Perry can debate well enough to be a challenge to Romney for the GOP presidential nomination - the killing goes on in Syria.
The human rights observation group in London with activists on the ground in Syria says there were 11 deaths yesterday - 9 in Homs, the center of the protest movement, and 2 in the northern city Sarameen. Syrian forces loyal to Bashar al-ASsad have cut off mobile phones, land lines and internet connections in Homs in an effort to prevent dissenters from talking and planning together.
The Arab League, the only group that continues to try to talk sense to al-Assad and his goons, postponed the visit of its secretary general from today until Sunday at the request of al-Assad’s foreign minister.
A resident of Homs reported to Associated Press that: “All through the night, there was shooting. The gunfire didn’t stop…I can’t tell exactly what is going on because it’s dangerous to go out.”
Syria has long since sealed its borders to reporters and international human rights groups, explained as necessary to prevent “meddling” by foreigners, and making it difficult to independently confirm reports. But, it is certain that at least 2000 Syrian citizens have been killed in the repressive actions of the al-Assad regime.
Sanctions by the international community, meant to isolate and deprive the regime of funds coming from petroleum sales, have thus far failed to stop al-Assad’s murderous attacks on his own people.
Pray for these Syrian freedom fighters, so savaged by their tyrant’s troops. And, take time to sent an email or call your American congressman or other country’s political leadership. Tell them that we are watching and it is time to SAVE SYRIA.
Because it seems only our concerted voices will make any difference.
