Taking Responsibility vs Doing Something to Protect American Diplomats

A suicide bomber detonated a device at the side entrance of the US Embassy in the Turkish capital, Ankara, today that left two people dead - the bomber and a Turkish security guard. The bomb exploded inside the security checkpoint at the entrance of the visa section of the embassy. Turkey's prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed the deaths and said the outlawed Marxist group, the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, or DHKP-C, is responsible for the suicide bombing. The group has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union. Erdogan said: "It is my principle to speak only after receiving the final result, but I can say clearly that it is DHKP-C." The US Embassy is in an area where several other embassies, including those of Germany and France, are located. Police sealed off the area and journalists were being kept away earlier today. We all know, dear readers, that a suicide bomber can strike anywhere and anytime. And, if Hillary Clinton hadn't resigned today, we also know that she would have stepped up to a podium to take 'full responsibility" for the Ankara bombing. And, as with the Benghazi assassination of Ambassador Chris Stevens, the importance of her words would not be to "take responsibility" for anything but to toss it into the ashpile of Clinton State Department history, where no one is responsible either for prior lapses in the security provided to American diplomats and embassies or for trying to improve security for the future. America can do better and must do better. US embassies are natural targets for terrorists and the State Department ought to be very serious about protecting them and the diplomats who live and work in them. Diplomats and their staffs are not supposed to be cannon fodder, sent out to be maimed and killed. President Obama should be active in developing security for the diplomats whom, after all, he has appointed. New Secretary of State John Kerry should make diplomatic security a top priority. Taking full responsibility is not sufficient.

  1. RESPONSIBILITY is such a strong word. When it is joined by other words such as "I TAKE RESPONSIBILITY" it denotes that the speaker was unaware of this happening, they were caught off guard, their plans didn't take this happening into account, THEY FAILED AND SOMEONE DIED.

Words all have meanings and when accompanied by other words their meanings all become clearer and easier to understand. As in the case of Mrs. Clinton after Benghazi.

She "took full responsibility" for Amb Stevens death and his 3 security people. Isn't that so honorable and decent of her to shoulder the blame in Benghazi and today in Ankara (for the plans on the table this morning were still hers not Kerry's) ... why shouldn't she, she failed plain and simple.

Both Obama and Mrs. Clinton have been caught so many time off guard, unprepared, no emergency plans, ie: RESPONSIBLE for deaths all over the Middle East. Not just American diplomatic service men/women deaths but local civilians as well.

I know about 'security" of people and property - it is not that difficult to defend against going astray.

Mrs. Clinton and Pres. Obama ... I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY is a little lite for malfeasance of office and dereliction of duty be honest with the American public you are both in over your heads and have no plans on how to get out of this mess on any other that may crop up in the future

  2. "It is our duty still to endeavor to avoid war; but if it shall actually take place, no matter by whom brought on, we must defend ourselves. If our house be on fire, without inquiring whether it was fired from within or without, we must try to extinguish it".
    Thomas Jefferson

As Pres. Jefferson said ... It is our duty to defend, etc. This administration in it's actions and in particular Mrs. Clinton during her times as Sec of State she FAILED to defend our diplomats or at very least take up their cause.

She proved crisis after crisis that she saw the position of Sec of State as a Public Relations position and a stepping stone to the presidency in 2016. And if she played her role as a good solider of the Obama Administration and the National Democratic party this "brass ring" would be hers for the taking.

Think back over some of the really outstanding Secretaries of State and think about the really bad ones to ... at the bottom of the list the name that will appear is that of Hillary Clinton. Self described as the smartest women in the world when her husband was in the White House ... but not smart enough to save her State Department diplomats from a vile death in Benghazi when she had the wherewithal to protect them and defend our embassy from destruction at the hands of terrorists.

This she was duty bound to do via the Oath of Office she took.

  3. It is time for the American politician to wake up and accept a few very simple fact about the conflicts that the Free World in engaged in right now.

We are no longer facing an enemy that is dressed in uniforms. The enemy today looks like anyone of another 100 individuals standing outside a US Embassy in a country far, far away that could be loaded down with explosives and willing to turn ones self (and as many innocent people as possible) into ground meat in the name of Mohammad.

The enemy today is well educated at an American or European University in anything from Chemical Engineering to Poli Sci, to World's Religions, etc.The don't wear that dust covered, loose fitting, flowing robes (so good at hiding explosives). Only when it is his time to become the next "martyr" for Mohammad do they become like the background and fade into the crowd before they go "BOOOM".

The American president & Secretary of State have NO idea who the enemy of freedom is in this conflict. What they look like or what their drive is all about. They are clueless. And therefore they are inept and incapable of waring this war and winning it.

Why do I mention the obvious. Because it is evident that the present American president and his inner circle of managers and advisers have no idea about this. They think that the "enemy of our enemies are our friends" or worse so that everyone loves and agrees with his complete failure in foreign policy and NOTHING could be further from the truth.

The likes of Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and who ever else gets senate approval to be head of the Defense Dept and CIA and those that will be appointed via presidential appointments are pawns of Obama and George Soros, and their likes.

We have engaged the enemy in this war with the jihad and Muslin fundamentalist for over 25 years now and they are disappointingly our leaders!

  4. If John Kerry makes that his priority I'll be the first to say I was wrong.
