Sarah Palin and her family are making their way up the east coast of the United States, visiting American historical sites and monuments and causing unending problems for the political press that's trying to guess where Sarah will appear next - because she won't give them her schedule.
Then, low and behold, she arrived in New York City and called on Donald Trump in his Fifth Avenue penthouse atop his Trump Tower building. Later, after their tête-à-tête, Donald chauffered Sarah and her family to a pizza restaurant near Broadway, where they had lunch together, just one big happy family celebrating Memorial day.
Now, I'm not one to see conspiracies around every corner, but Palin and Trump together just weeks before they both have to decide what to do about a 2012 bid for the presidency - that's just too much.
Sarah Palin is the darling of the Tea Party, and draws big crowds who donate big bucks to her political war chest. She is adored or dismissed in equal parts in America, where she is considered either a breath of fresh air or a dangerously loose cannon on the deck of the GOP's 2012 ship.
Donald Trump has already said he's no longer considering a GOP run in 2012, but he has dropped hints about an independent race outside the GOP.
What if - just what if - Sarah and Donald decided to join forces. He's got the economic expertise and business skills she lacks. She's got the face that TV cameras simply cannot refuse to follow, and her conservative credentials are far more authentic than Trump's. It's hard to imagine, for instance, that The Donald really has been converted to an anti-abortion position. But, Palin is the real thing when she speaks against abortion.
They might be the Dream Ticket that the GOP is so lacking for the moment. None of the others in the race shines the way Sarah does when she's on the stump. And, Trump has the sharp lines to swat down Obama's platitudes.
Is there anyone out there who wants to start a "Draft Palin-Trump (or Trump-Palin)" campaign. I bet lots of disillusioned Republicans would hop on the bus, even if they don't have any better idea than the American political press where it's going.
